Concert to Celebrate Susan B. Anthony’s Birthday, February 19

The annual celebration will feature “an absolutely gorgeous piece of music” to honor the “daughter of Adams,” the great social reformer, Susan B. Anthony.

Adams, MAJanuary 26, 2012 – The Susan B. Anthony Birthplace Museum will present the original music and narrative, “Only the Message Mattered,” by award-winning composer/musician Bob Warren and his ensemble. The concert, at 3:00 pm, Sunday, February 19, Adams Free Library, 92 Park Street, Adams, MA, will honor  one of the world’s greatest human rights leaders and “daughter of Adams,” Susan B. Anthony. Refreshments and a birthday cake will be served. The public is invited to attend free of charge.

The event is co-hosted by the Adams Historical Society and funded in part from a grant from Mass Humanities, which receives support from the Massachusetts Cultural Council and is an affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Bob Warren wrote the piece in 2010 with a grant from the New York State Council on the Arts for an ensemble of three singers/narrators and two instrumentalists. Performing in Adams on February 19, in simple Quaker dress, the ensemble will be singer/narrators Brittany Rivers, Barbara Skiff, Rebecca Rogers, cellist Demetria Koninis and Bob Warren on piano.

A songwriter of many music styles, Bob has had his songs recorded by blues guitarist and singer Joan Crane, pop singer Mallory O'Donnell, and reggae/R&B singer Minna Lee. Bob’s songs also appear on two volumes of The Fast Folk Musical Magazine/Smithsonian Folkways series. The recently released and self titled Bob Warren is Bob's fifth album.

A CD of Only the Message Mattered is on sale in the Birthplace Museum gift shop.
