PUBLIC MEETING TO UPDATE
THE COORDINATED PUBLIC TRANSIT— HUMAN SERVICES
TRANSPORTATION PLAN
This plan update focuses on the transportation needs of persons with disabilities, older adults, and persons with low income and makes recommendations on how to improve transportation for these three demo-graphic groups.
The plan is being updated to retain the region’s eligibility to receive federal funding and to address the growing needs of human services transportation users. This plan also fulfills the federal requirements en-acted under the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, and Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU) in 2005. SAFETEA-LU stipulates that beginning in 2007, all projects funded through Section 5310: Elderly Individuals and individuals with Disabilities Program; Section 5316: JARC and Section 5317: New Freedom Programs must be derived from a locally developed, coordinated public transit human ser-vices transportation plan.
The first Coordinated Public Transit – Human Services Transportation Plan for Berkshire County was pre-pared in June, 2007 by the BRPC. The existing plan was last updated in June, 2009.
