5th Thursday Dinner
“Village Center Zoning”
The villages of Berkshire County are falling victim to the unintended
consequences of modern zoning. These once vibrant mixed-use and more densely
populated areas are no longer allowed under many modern zoning codes that
impose larger minimum lot sizes, larger setbacks and a strict segregation of uses.
Any new development in these village areas is likely to be inconsistent with the
existing settlement pattern and those existing lots and structures rendered
non-conforming are made difficult to change.
Please come enjoy excellent food and listen to Danielle McKahn, Land Use Planner
with the Pioneer Valley Planning Commission, discuss how a community can
encourage and enable the revitalization of its village center.
